MOVING TIPS TO AVOID A HOSTAGE SITUATION

There are many reputable moving companies whose goal is to provide their clients with exceptional services.  Unfortunately, as with every industry there are always bad people whose sole intent is to scam unsuspecting consumers.  Knowing who you are hiring is essential.  Beware of “movers” who hold your belongings hostage and demand more money before delivering your household goods.  Do your research and learn about the moving company you are interested in hiring.  Avoid being victimized by a ROGUE MOVER by following these moving tips:

Ask for recommendations from your realtor, friends, family, or other known entities who can attest for the Mover.

Facebook recommendations are also useful but make sure the person referring is trustworthy.

Ask the Mover for a referral list of people you can contact to verify a successful move with them.

Check review sites such as the BBB, Google, and website pages.

For moves within Florida (INTRASTATE) check with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to ensure the moving company is licensed.

For moves crossing state lines (INTERSTATE) check with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

NEVER – EVER ARRANGE YOUR MOVING SERVICES EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE.  WEBSITES ARE DECEIVING.

FINALLY, get the moving company’s physical address.  Visit the moving company, if convenient, to ensure a moving company is operating from the address.  AVOID moving companies who operate out of a residence or apartment building, more than likely they are move brokers who consumers want to avoid.  Otherwise, GOOGLE EARTH is a great resource.
