AMWAT Movers Serving Our Community
What really matters is what you do with what you have. – Shirley Lord, writer
It is in giving that we receive. – St. Francis of Assisi
Creating and maintaining an excellent quality of life in a community does not happen by itself. It is a collective effort by members within the community who contribute to serve the needs of its citizenship from the arts to human services. Many, if not all of these services are provided by non-profits who cannot exist without the help of public and private entities. At AMWAT we believe in the power of corporate citizenship, the ability to positively impact the well-being of our community by leveraging resources available to us. Following are just a few of the many non-profits AMWAT supports:
The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT): is a nonprofit organization of women committed to improving the lives of children and families; its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. AMWAT supports many of the JLT’s projects year-round however, the Whale of a Sale is J.L.T.’s largest fundraiser since 1974, featuring gently used merchandise at low prices. All proceeds flow back into the community through their projects: Operation Prom Dress, Fostering Hope, Kids Boutique and Kids in the Kitchen. AMWAT provides year round storage services, multiple portable storage units that we deliver to the J.L.T. house for easy drop offs and made our warehouse available to donors for large drop offs. As a result the 2011 Whale of a Sale was the most successful to date raising $55,000 of which all proceeds go to helping local organizations. By providing our year round resources to the Junior League they were able to collect a record number of donations for their sale.
Big Bend Habitat for Humanity: Since 2006, AMWAT has moved many of Habitat for Humanity homeowners free of charge, we also provide gently used packing supplies to our new and proud homeowners. AMWAT has also provided free delivery services to Habitat for Humanity during their annual fundraiser, Christmas Tree Gala wherein 50 Christmas Trees are auctioned to the public. It takes us approximately two days to deliver all the trees to the appropriate owner.
March of Dimes of The Big Bend: Since 2005, AMWAT has assisted the March of Dimes with setting up for the annual walk. What used to take March of Dimes personnel several days to transport and set up for the walk due to numerous trips in personal vehicles AMWAT can accomplish in a few hours. We deliver all of the items necessary for the walk (tables, chairs, water, tents, snacks, etc.), help set up, and afterwards assist with the break down and transports back to our warehouse where we provide free year round storage to the March of Dimes.
American Second Harvest of The Big Bend: AMWAT provides its customers who are moving locally with a 5% discount in exchange for 5 nonperishable food items. As a result, we have donated thousands of pounds of food to the American Second Harvest.
Florida A & M University: In 2008, we transported the world famous Marching 100’s musical equipment to Presidential Inauguration free of charge.
